30 November, Saint Andrew, Apostle
ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
The Lord saw two brothers along the sea of Galilee,
Peter and Andrew, and he called to them:
Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men (Mt 4:18-19).
COLLECT
We humbly entreat your majesty, O Lord,
that the blessed apostle Andrew
may be as constant an intercessor for us in your presence
as he was outstanding in preaching and in ruling over your Church.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God forever and ever.
GENERAL INTERCESSIONS
For the holy Church of Constantinople;
that she may hold fast to the Gospel received from Saint Andrew
and, helped by his intercession,
demonstrate to all the churches the wondrous power of the Cross,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.
For our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI;
that during his apostolic journey to Turkey,
he may be preserved from all danger
beneath the protecting mantle of the All–Holy Mother of God,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.
For our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI,
and for His Holiness, Bartholomew I, Patriarch of Constantinople;
that, assisted by the glorious Apostles Peter and Andrew,
they may guide the Churches entrusted to their care
into the perfect unity desired by Our Lord,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.
For every people and place under the protection of Saint Andrew;
for Greece, Russia, Scotland and Ukraine;
and for the Italian city of Amalfi,
that Saint Andrew may lead them, even today,
to Christ, the Prince of Peace
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.
For young men and women seeking a loving spouse;
for those confronted with the Cross in physical or mental suffering;
and for those alienated from the Church;
that Saint Andrew may obtain for them healing and hope
according to their need,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.
For the six monasteries of the Benedictines of Jesus Crucified,
for their oblates and their friends;
that they may continue to find in Saint Andrew
a powerful witness to the joy that comes from the Cross,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.
COLLECT AT THE GENERAL INTERCESSIONS
Almighty God,
who gave such grace to your apostle Andrew
that he readily obeyed the call of your only-begotten Son,
and brought his brother with him:
give us who are called by your holy Word,
grace to follow Him without delay,
and to bring those near to us
into the gracious presence of the Lamb,
your Christ who is Lord forever and ever.
PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS
We bring these gifts to you, almighty God,
on this feast of Saint Andrew;
grant that we, by offering them, may please you,
and by your acceptance of them, be given life.
Through Christ our Lord.
PREFACE
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always, here and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.
In this great mystery of our salvation
we celebrate today Saint Andrew,
who by his preaching of Christ, your Son,
and by the witness of his martyrdom,
showed himself a true brother to your apostle Saint Peter
and shared in the suffering and the glory
of all those called by Christ as his apostles.
And so, on his feastday we join with him to adore you
and in the company of angels and saints
with whom he shares the vision of your glory
we proclaim your majesty in their joyful hymn of praise:
COMMUNION ANTIPHON
Andrew said to Simon his brother:
We have found the Messiah, called the Christ.
And he brought him to Jesus (Jn 1:41-42).|
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
May the communion of your sacraments strengthen us, Lord,
so that, following the example of Saint Andrew the Apostle,
we may carry within ourselves the dying of Christ,
and so be found worthy of life with him in glory.
Who lives and reigns forever and ever.
