Divine Providence for Families
Two of our Oblate families currently face housing difficulties. Last evening, we began, for this intention, a novena consisting of the Litanies of Divine Providence. Benedictine monasteries have always supported and encouraged Christian family life. I invite the readers of Vultus Christi to unite with us in praying for these two families.
The Litanies of Divine Providence are a condensation of biblical and liturgical texts: a perfect example of how lectio turns to meditatio, and meditatio to oratio and contemplatio.
Litanies of Divine Providence
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord have mercy upon us.
Christ, hear us.
Christ, graciously hear us.
God, the heavenly Father, whose providence governeth all things,
have mercy upon us.
God the Son, Wisdom from on high, mightily and sweetly ordering all our days,*
have mercy upon us.
God the Holy Ghost, father of the Poor and source of all our store,
have mercy upon us.
Holy Trinity, one God, unchanging in thy providence,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, creating and ruling all,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, who alone dost great wonders,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, supremely good and immeasurable,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, in which we live, and move, and have our being,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, our only hope and salvation,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, wellspring of all good things,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, with whom no word shall be impossible,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, our expectation and our glory,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, consolation of the poor,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, strength of the frail,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, our refuge,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, our storehouse,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, our life and our shelter,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, supplying to the utmost and giving boundless solace,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, mother of orphans,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, giving sustenance to the indigent,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, rudder of seafarers,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, impenetrable shield,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, artery of life,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, bread of the famished,
have mercy upon us.
Divine Providence, consolation in our exile,
have mercy upon us.
V. Cast the burden of thy cares upon the Lord, and he will sustain thee.
R. And from all thy troubles he will set thee free.
V. As a father hath compassion on his children, so hath the Lord compassion on them that fear him.
R. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
V. Remember thou our congregation.
R. Which thou hast possessed from the beginning.
Let us pray.
O God, the protector of all that trust in thee, show thyself favourable to our prayers, and because through the weakness of our mortal nature we can do no good thing without thee, grant us the help of thy Providence, that thou being our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we finally lose not the things eternal. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
