11 October, Mass of Blessed John XXIII, Pope
ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
MR
The Lord chose him to be a high priest unto Himself,
and opening His treasury,
made him abound in every good.
COLLECT
Almighty and eternal God,
who in the Pope Blessed John,
gave to the whole world
the shining example of a good shepherd,
grant that, through his intercession,
we may with joy spread abroad the fullness of Christian charity.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, forever and ever.
GENERAL INTERCESSIONS
That the Church may be for all nations both Mother and Teacher,
giving life to her children
and teaching them with maternal care,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.
That those in power over states and nations
may be attentive to those who are
in the greatest need of help and defense,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.
That prisoners may be helped and encouraged;
that the lonely may be graced with the company of friends;
and that the dying may find solace in the Blood of Christ,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.
That as we remember today the forty-fourth
anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council
we may persevere in prayer with Mary the Mother of Jesus
awaiting that New Pentecost
for which Blessed John XXIII fervently prayed,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.
COLLECT AT THE GENERAL INTERCESSIONS
Almighty and ever-living God,
who filled your servant Blessed John XXIII
with good will and kindness,
with simplicity, piety, and wisdom;
mercifully grant that we who recall his memory today
may so imitate his virtues here below
as to share with him above
in the boundless joy of your glory.
Through Christ our Lord.
OFFERTORY ANTIPHON
GR
Come, children, hear me:
I will teach you the fear of the Lord (Ps 33:12).
PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS
Receive, we beseech you, O Lord,
this sacrifice of your people,
so that what is offered to your glory
in honour of Blessed John XXIII
you would bestow on us for everlasting salvation.
Through Christ our Lord.
PREFACE
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
through Christ our Lord.
Three times the Lord asked Peter if he loved him,
before finding him worthy to be the Shepherd of his sheep.
In succession to Peter, Christ chose Blessed John XXIII
to be Bishop of the Roman Church,
to preside in love over the assembly of believers
and, made strong in faith himself,
to strengthen the faith of his brothers and sisters.
And so, with all the angels we give you glory
in this, their joyful hymn of praise:
COMMUNION ANTIPHON
MR
The Good Shepherd lays down his life
for his sheep (Jn 10:11).
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
May the sacraments we have received, O Lord,
nourish within us the fire of charity
that so vehemently inflamed Blessed John XXIII
that he spent himself ceaselessly for your Church.
Through Christ our Lord.
