Again this evening I promised prayers for an individual struggling with mental illness. Although I cannot reveal the details of such requests, I would invite my dear readers, of their charity, to say the following prayer to Saint Dymphna for the many people of all ages and backgrounds who seek relief and healing from afflictions of the mind and emotions.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>O glorious Saint Dymphna<\/strong>,<br \/>\nvirgin martyr and chaste bride of Christ,<br \/>\nchild of Ireland,<br \/>\nbereft of thy mother,<br \/>\nobject of thy grief-stricken father&#8217;s unlawful desires,<br \/>\npure dove who, to preserve thy purity, didst fly to foreign shores,<br \/>\ndauntless follower of the immolated Lamb,<br \/>\nwilling exile from thy homeland,<br \/>\nspiritual daughter of the holy priest Gerebernus,<br \/>\ntraveler through the dark of unknown forests,<br \/>\ntreasure hidden in the shadow of Saint Martin,<br \/>\nlover of solitude and living sanctuary of ceaseless prayer,<br \/>\ncompassionate handmaid of the poor and afflicted,<br \/>\nthou art no stranger to suffering.<\/p>\n<p>O virgin nourished by the Bread of Life,<br \/>\nvirgin strong in thy weakness,<br \/>\nvirgin ablaze with the fire of the Holy Ghost,<br \/>\nvictim of thy demented father&#8217;s cruel rage,<br \/>\nvictim with the Immaculate Host,<br \/>\nvictim mingling thy blood with the Blood of the Lamb,<br \/>\nturn thy gaze upon us who seek thy intercession today,<br \/>\nand hearken to our supplications.<\/p>\n<p>Thy name, O Saint Dymphna, is spread abroad in the churches of Christ,<br \/>\nwhere the suffering faithful invoke thee<br \/>\nas the friend of exiles and of those in flight from persecution,<br \/>\nas the unfailing advocate of the mentally ill, the emotionally distraught, and the despondent,<br \/>\nas the light of those in the darkness of depression,<br \/>\nthe hope of the hopeless,<br \/>\nthe cheer and comfort of the sorrowing,<br \/>\nthe deliverer of those in the grip of anxiety,<br \/>\nthe courage of those stricken with panic,<br \/>\nthe healer of confused minds,<br \/>\nand the solace of grieving hearts.<\/p>\n<p>Confident in thy powerful intercession,<br \/>\nwe beseech thee, Saint Dymphna<br \/>\nto comfort all who, burdened by mental anguish or confusion,<br \/>\nstruggle daily to make their way in this valley of tears.<br \/>\nGive them a garland for ashes,<br \/>\nthe oil of joy for sadness,<br \/>\nand a garment of praise for the spirit of grief.<\/p>\n<p>Let no one who seeks thy help today go away empty,<br \/>\nfor thou art powerful over the heart of Christ,<br \/>\nand He will heed thy pleading on our behalf<br \/>\nwith the healing of darkened minds,<br \/>\nthe consolation of broken hearts,<br \/>\nand the gracious manifestation of His merciful goodness towards all.
