The most famous of these prayers would be the <em>Supplica<\/em> to the Queen of the Holy Rosary of Pompei composed by Blessed Bartolo Longo. Nearly every parish or chapel in southern Italy has a <em>Supplica<\/em> to its patron saint recited by all the people in unison on the saint&#8217;s feast. A friend <\/small><small>asked me to write a <em>Supplica<\/em> to Saint Th\u00e9r\u00e8se of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face. We are asking her intercession for our monastery, trusting that she will find us a suitable permanent home. Here is my <em>Supplica<\/em> to Saint Th\u00e9r\u00e8se.<\/small><\/p>\n<p>O glorious Saint Th\u00e9r\u00e8se of the Child Jesus<br \/>\nand of the Holy Face,<br \/>\ncherished child of the Father,<br \/>\nvirgin espoused to the Son,<br \/>\nhumble Doctor instructed by the Holy Ghost,<br \/>\nWe greet thee with joy<br \/>\nand approach thee with confidence.<br \/>\nThe wonders wrought by thy intercession<br \/>\nare too many to be counted;<br \/>\nthou showest thyself the friend and advocate<br \/>\nof all who have recourse to thee in time of need.<br \/>\nWe rely on thy childlike power over the Father&#8217;s Heart.<br \/>\nFrom the thy place in heaven<br \/>\nthou seest our afflictions<br \/>\nand, by a merciful disposition of Providence,<br \/>\nthou sendest roses of pity to those who seek thy help.<br \/>\nThere is no misery of body or of soul<br \/>\nto which thou dost not respond with love.<br \/>\nThou who didst seek to be love in the heart of the Church,<br \/>\nwhile still on earth,<br \/>\nart forever love in the heart of the Church<br \/>\nfrom the place that is thine in Heaven.<br \/>\nDescend to us, Saint Th\u00e9r\u00e8se.<br \/>\nHasten to us who are waiting for a rose from heaven,<br \/>\na sign of thy compassion, a pledge of thy assistance.<br \/>\nWho hath not heard of thy errands of love<br \/>\nin every place and on every continent?<br \/>\nWalk with us, Saint Th\u00e9r\u00e8se,<br \/>\nlest we wander from thy little way.<br \/>\nChange, we pray thee, our timid and faltering confidence,<br \/>\ninto a confidence that is limitless and bold,<br \/>\nthat by offering ourselves, as thou didst offer thyself,<br \/>\nto the mystery of Merciful Love,<br \/>\nour confidence may be perfected, as was thine,<br \/>\nin the contemplation of the holy and adorable Face of Jesus:<br \/>\nthine own heart&#8217;s treasure in this valley of tears,<br \/>\nand thine all-surpassing joy<br \/>\nin the brightness of the heavenly fatherland.<br \/>\nAmen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Supplica is a prayer of supplication composed according to a certain literary genre that remains popular in Italy to this day.
