\nA Supplica<\/strong><\/em> is a prayer of supplication composed according to a certain literary genre that remains popular in Italy to this day. The most famous of these prayers would be the Supplica<\/em> to the Queen of the Holy Rosary of Pompei composed by Blessed Bartolo Longo. Nearly every parish or chapel in southern Italy has a Supplica<\/em> to its patron saint recited by all the people in unison on the saint’s feast. A friend <\/small>asked me to write a Supplica<\/em> to Saint Th\u00e9r\u00e8se of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face. We are asking her intercession for our monastery, trusting that she will find us a suitable permanent home. Here is my Supplica<\/em> to Saint Th\u00e9r\u00e8se.<\/small><\/p>\n

O glorious Saint Th\u00e9r\u00e8se of the Child Jesus
\nand of the Holy Face,
\ncherished child of the Father,
\nvirgin espoused to the Son,
\nhumble Doctor instructed by the Holy Ghost,
\nWe greet thee with joy
\nand approach thee with confidence.
\nThe wonders wrought by thy intercession
\nare too many to be counted;
\nthou showest thyself the friend and advocate
\nof all who have recourse to thee in time of need.
\nWe rely on thy childlike power over the Father’s Heart.
\nFrom the thy place in heaven
\nthou seest our afflictions
\nand, by a merciful disposition of Providence,
\nthou sendest roses of pity to those who seek thy help.
\nThere is no misery of body or of soul
\nto which thou dost not respond with love.
\nThou who didst seek to be love in the heart of the Church,
\nwhile still on earth,
\nart forever love in the heart of the Church
\nfrom the place that is thine in Heaven.
\nDescend to us, Saint Th\u00e9r\u00e8se.
\nHasten to us who are waiting for a rose from heaven,
\na sign of thy compassion, a pledge of thy assistance.
\nWho hath not heard of thy errands of love
\nin every place and on every continent?
\nWalk with us, Saint Th\u00e9r\u00e8se,
\nlest we wander from thy little way.
\nChange, we pray thee, our timid and faltering confidence,
\ninto a confidence that is limitless and bold,
\nthat by offering ourselves, as thou didst offer thyself,
\nto the mystery of Merciful Love,
\nour confidence may be perfected, as was thine,
\nin the contemplation of the holy and adorable Face of Jesus:
\nthine own heart’s treasure in this valley of tears,
\nand thine all-surpassing joy
\nin the brightness of the heavenly fatherland.
