{"id":3937,"date":"2011-03-04T15:09:57","date_gmt":"2011-03-04T15:09:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vultuschristi.org\/index.php\/2011\/03\/letter-to-a-brother-on-the-way\/"},"modified":"2011-03-04T15:09:57","modified_gmt":"2011-03-04T15:09:57","slug":"letter-to-a-brother-on-the-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vultuschristi.org\/index.php\/2011\/03\/letter-to-a-brother-on-the-way\/","title":{"rendered":"Letter to a brother on the way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vultuschristi.org\/Sant%27%20Antonio%20Signorelli.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Sant' Antonio Signorelli.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/vultuschristi.org\/assets_c\/2011\/03\/Sant' Antonio Signorelli-thumb-300x418-8732.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"418\" class=\"mt-image-right\" style=\"float: right; margin: 0 0 20px 20px;\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nHow many greater gifts will come to you<br \/>\nin the truly blessed life that lies before us,<br \/>\nis, I must admit, beyond my capacity to discuss,<br \/>\nnor is it within my power to lay them out before you.<br \/>\nIt will suffice only to refer in summary<br \/>\nto the indescribable outcome of this exchange,<br \/>\nfor this is what awaits those who have perfectly left the world:<br \/>\n&#8220;Things beyond our seeing,<br \/>\nthings beyond our hearing,<br \/>\nthings beyond our imagining,<br \/>\nall prepared by God for those who love Him.&#8221;<br \/>\nTherefore, hide this treasure, namely Christ, our God and Lord,<br \/>\nwho became both redeemer and ransom for us;<br \/>\nhe who both promises and is the reward held out to us;<br \/>\nwho is the life of men and endless existence of the angels.<br \/>\nWith great care hide this treasure, I say,<br \/>\nin the receptacle of your heart.<br \/>\nWith it in your possession cast away all concern<br \/>\nfor any thing else in this world.<br \/>\nTake delight in speaking with him in unremitting prayer,<br \/>\nand in this way constantly nourish yourself<br \/>\nat the feast of holy thoughts.<br \/>\nLet him be your food and also your raiment.<br \/>\nBut if it should happen that you are also in need<br \/>\nof some tangible convenience,<br \/>\ndo not hold back,<br \/>\nbut place your trust in the firm promise He made to you<br \/>\nwhen He said:<br \/>\n&#8220;Set your mind on God&#8217;s kingdom before everything else,<br \/>\nand all the rest will come to you as well.&#8221;<br \/>\nFor if He could satisfy the thirsty throng of Israelites<br \/>\nby commanding water to gush from that dry, metallic rock;<br \/>\nif for long periods of time<br \/>\nHe could serve heavenly manna to the hungry;<br \/>\nif He could order vast flocks of quail<br \/>\nto light in the camp of those people who complained of their lot,<br \/>\nwould He be unable to provide for the necessities of one little man<br \/>\nwho is constantly requesting His assistance?<br \/>\nAnd for Him who for almost forty years<br \/>\nkept the clothes of that great multitude intact,<br \/>\nwould it be difficult to replace your tattered old garments with new ones?<br \/>\nTruly, we of little faith, must urge ourselves to hold fast to Christ,<br \/>\nfor fainthearted diffidence makes Christ a pauper,<br \/>\nwhile full confidence causes Him to be rich and generous<br \/>\nin dispensing His gifts.<br \/>\nTake care to be concerned only with those things that He commands,<br \/>\nand let there be no doubt at all about those that He promises.<br \/>\nLet the tax collector feel safe when the debtor is prompt to pay.<br \/>\nThere is no reason to be apprehensive<br \/>\nwhen He who never lies has given His word.<br \/>\nThe creditor can breathe easily<br \/>\nwhen Truth itself is bound to His promise.<br \/>\n<u>Saint Peter Damian, Letter 165<\/u><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How many greater gifts will come to you in the truly blessed life that lies before us, is, I must admit, beyond my capacity to discuss, nor is it within my power to lay them out before you.
