\nSomething on holy preaching<\/em> for the feast of Saint Vincent Ferrer:<\/small>
\nPreach, O messenger of the Word,
\nnot to make a name for yourself,
\nbut to glorify the Name of Jesus
\nand to make known the treasures of His Heart.
\nRely not on yourself,
\nbut on the Consoler,
\nthe Advocate sent by Christ
\naccording to His promise.
\nHe who preaches in the power of the Holy Spirit
\ntouches the hard-hearted
\nand draws souls to Christ’s pierced side.
\nDismiss all anxiety and fear;
\nthe spawn of self-love
\nand of the need to win for yourself favour and acclaim.
\nFear not failure,
\nonly abandon yourself to Christ,
\nand He will speak through you.
\nHe will sustain your every word
\nwith the Spirit of Truth,
\nand of Light,
\nof Forgiveness, and of Glory.
\nPreach in the company of the most holy Mother of Jesus,
\njust as Peter, and John, and James preached in her presence,
\ncertain of her prayer for them,
\nand casting themselves upon it.
\nPreach simply, as if in a holy conversation,
\nunless the grace is given you from above
\nto preach a hymn of praise
\nto the love of Christ
\ndisplayed in all His mysteries.
\nPray, and you will preach well.
\nPrayer, by obtaining grace, perfects nature.
\nPrayer transforms the reluctant stammerer
\ninto a messenger of the Most High.
\nPrayer brings down rays to illumine the mind,
\nand fire to set cold hearts ablaze.
\nKnow that, of all your prayers,
\nthe rosary best prepares you for holy preaching.
\nBeing a humble prayer, it is the undoing of your pride.
\nThe rosary purifies the heart of the residue of your sins.
\nIt opens the intellect to the light of the Holy Spirit.
\nThe rosary causes the preacher to enter with Mary most holy
\nbeneath the shadow of the Holy Spirit.
\nThus shall Christ come forth:
\nthe blessed fruit of your preaching.
\nThe true preacher of Christ
\npartakes of the mission of the Archangel Gabriel,
\nhe announces the advent of the Word
\nand waits upon the soul’s consent
\nand upon the Word’s new birth by the power of the Holy Spirit.
\nPreach in this way
\nand you will glorify the Father.
\nPreach in this way
\nuntil the beauty of Christ’s one Bride, His Church,
