\nTonight, at least, I have no words to express what I perceive to be the significance of this Act of Consecration in the context of The Year of the Priest. I have nothing but joy, and an immense gratitude to the Holy Father.<\/em><\/p>\n

Consecration of Priests to the Immaculate Heart of Mary<\/strong><\/div>\n

Immaculate Mother,
\nin this place of grace,
\ncalled together by the love of your Son Jesus
\nthe Eternal High Priest, we,
\nsons in the Son and his priests,
\nconsecrate ourselves to your maternal Heart,
\nin order to carry out faithfully the Father’s Will.
\nWe are mindful that, without Jesus,
\nwe can do nothing good (cf. Jn 15:5)
\nand that only through him, with him and in him,
\nwill we be instruments of salvation
\nfor the world.
\nBride of the Holy Spirit,
\nobtain for us the inestimable gift
\nof transformation in Christ.
\nThrough the same power of the Spirit that
\novershadowed you,
\nmaking you the Mother of the Saviour,
\nhelp us to bring Christ your Son
\nto birth in ourselves too.
\nMay the Church
\nbe thus renewed by priests who are holy,
\npriests transfigured by the grace of him
\nwho makes all things new.
\nMother of Mercy,
\nit was your Son Jesus who called us
\nto become like him:
\nlight of the world and salt of the earth
\n(cf. Mt 5:13-14).
\nHelp us,
\nthrough your powerful intercession,
\nnever to fall short of this sublime vocation,
\nnor to give way to our selfishness,
\nto the allurements of the world
\nand to the wiles of the Evil One.
\nPreserve us with your purity,
\nguard us with your humility
\nand enfold us with your maternal love
\nthat is reflected in so many souls
\nconsecrated to you,
\nwho have become for us
\ntrue spiritual mothers.
\nMother of the Church,
\nwe priests want to be pastors
\nwho do not feed themselves
\nbut rather give themselves to God for their brethren,
\nfinding their happiness in this.
\nNot only with words, but with our lives,
\nwe want to repeat humbly,
\nday after day,
\nOur “here I am”.
\nGuided by you,
\nwe want to be Apostles
\nof Divine Mercy,
\nglad to celebrate every day
\nthe Holy Sacrifice of the Altar
\nand to offer to those who request it
\nthe sacrament of Reconciliation.
\nAdvocate and Mediatrix of grace,
\nyou who are fully immersed
\nin the one universal mediation of Christ,
\ninvoke upon us, from God,
\na heart completely renewed
\nthat loves God with all its strength
\nand serves mankind as you did.
\nRepeat to the Lord
\nyour efficacious word:
\n“They have no wine” (Jn 2:3),
\nso that the Father and the Son will send upon us
\na new outpouring of
\nthe Holy Spirit.
\nFull of wonder and gratitude
\nat your continuing presence in our midst,
\nin the name of all priests
\nI too want to cry out:
\n“Why is this granted me,
\nthat the mother of my Lord should come to me?” (Lk 1:43).
\nOur Mother for all time,
\ndo not tire of “visiting us”,
\nconsoling us, sustaining us.
\nCome to our aid
\nand deliver us from every danger
\nthat threatens us.
\nWith this act of entrustment and consecration,
\nwe wish to welcome you
\nmore deeply, more radically,
\nfor ever and totally
\ninto our human and priestly lives.
\nLet your presence cause new blooms to burst forth
\nin the desert of our loneliness,
\nlet it cause the sun to shine on our darkness,
\nlet it restore calm after the tempest,
\nso that all mankind shall see the salvation
\nof the Lord,
\nwho has the name and the face of Jesus,
\nwho is reflected in our hearts,
\nfor ever united to yours!
