\nThe Lord is my inheritance and my cup; he alone will give me my reward.

\nThe charity of God is poured forth in our hearts
\nby the Holy Spirit who dwells within us.

\nO God, who gave the blessed Abbot Aelred
\nthe grace of being all things to all men,
\ngrant that, following his example,
\nwe may so spend ourselves in the service of one another,

\nwho, in the Blessed Abbot Aelred,
\ndeigned to make an end of the old self
\nand to create a new self according to your own desire,

\nTruly it is right and just, our duty and our salvation,
\nalways and everywhere to give you thanks,
\nLord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,

\nTenderly you drew Saint Aelred
\nto the school of your service
\nwhere, having tasted of the sweetness of your love,
\nhe became the gentle father of many sons,
\na merciful shepherd to the weak,
\nand a model of spiritual friendship.
\nInflamed by the love of Christ,
\nhe embraced the Cross
\nas the pattern of monastic conversion,
\nand so attained the repose of those who love you,
\nthe true and eternal Sabbath of the blessed.
\nAnd so, on his feast day, we join with him to adore you,
