Father Weller&#8217;s Roman Ritual in three volumes is an indispensable resource for such sacramentals.  This morning, following the Last Gospel, we had the blessing of wine.  Afterwards guests were invited to the refectory to &#8220;drink to the love of Saint John.&#8221;<\/small><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">BLESSING OF WINE<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">ON THE FEAST OF SAINT JOHN,<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">APOSTLE AND EVANGELIST<\/div>\n<p><em>On the Feast of Saint John, Apostle and Evangelist, at the end of the principal Mass, that is, after the last Gospel, the priest, retaining all his vestments except the maniple, in the following manner blesses wine brought by the people in memory and in honor of Saint John, who drank poison without harm:<\/em><br \/>\nV. Our help is in the name of the Lord.<br \/>\nR. Who hath made heaven and earth.<br \/>\nV. The Lord be with you.<br \/>\nR. And with thy spirit.<br \/>\nLet us pray.<br \/>\nDeign, O Lord,<br \/>\ngraciously to bless +<br \/>\nand consecrate with Thy right hand<br \/>\nthis fruit of the vine,<br \/>\nthat by the merits of Saint John the Apostle and Evangelist,<br \/>\nall who drink of this wine,<br \/>\nbelieving in Thee and in Jesus Christ Whom Thou hast sent,<br \/>\nmay by the power of His Name<br \/>\nbe blessed and always protected.<br \/>\nThrough the same Christ our Lord.<br \/>\nR.  Amen.<br \/>\nO God, by whose power,<br \/>\nSaint John drank poison from the cup,<br \/>\nand was in no way harmed,<br \/>\nmercifully grant that all who this day<br \/>\ndrink of this wine blessed in his honour,<br \/>\nmay be freed, by his merits and intercession,<br \/>\nfrom every sickness by poisoning<br \/>\nand from any harm.<br \/>\nThrough Christ our Lord.<br \/>\nR.  Amen.<br \/>\nGrant, O God who art Charity,<br \/>\nthat those whom Thou hast first loved,<br \/>\nand who ardently desire to love Thee in return,<br \/>\nmay be freed from their sins,<br \/>\ntaste of the sweetness of Thy dilection,<br \/>\nand experience that inner gladness<br \/>\nthat is the gift of Thy Holy Spirit.<br \/>\nThrough Christ our Lord.<br \/>\nR.  Amen.<br \/>\nBless, O Lord, + this wine, which Thou hast made,<br \/>\nthat it may be us a healthful refreshment;<br \/>\nand grant by the invocation of Thy Holy Name<br \/>\nthat whosoever drinks of it in memory of Saint John,<br \/>\nthe Beloved Disciple of Thy Son,<br \/>\nmay, by his intercession and by Thy lovingkindess,<br \/>\nrejoice in lasting health of both soul and body.<br \/>\nThrough Christ our Lord.<br \/>\nR.  Amen<br \/>\nAnd may the blessing of almighty God,<br \/>\nthe Father, + and the Son, and the Holy Spirit,<br \/>\ndescend upon this wine, which He has made,<br \/>\nand upon those who will partake of it.<br \/>\nR. Amen.<br \/>\n<em>The wine is sprinkled with Holy Water.
