{"id":3467,"date":"2009-12-16T14:44:51","date_gmt":"2009-12-16T14:44:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vultuschristi.org\/index.php\/2009\/12\/te-christe-solum-quaerimus\/"},"modified":"2017-10-22T09:19:07","modified_gmt":"2017-10-22T08:19:07","slug":"te-christe-solum-quaerimus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vultuschristi.org\/index.php\/2009\/12\/te-christe-solum-quaerimus\/","title":{"rendered":"Te, Christe, solum quaerimus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/vultuschristi.org\/Annunciazione.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mt-image-right\" style=\"float: right; margin: 0 0 20px 20px;\" src=\"https:\/\/vultuschristi.org\/Annunciazione-thumb-300x299.jpg\" alt=\"Annunciazione.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a>For my friend, Monsignor A.B.C.<\/em><br \/>\nSometime in the early 1970s the Benedictine nuns of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stceciliasabbey.org.uk\/introduction\/introduction.html\">Abbey<\/a> <em>Pax Cordis Iesu<\/em> at Ryde, in the Isle of Wight, made an outstanding contribution to the prayer of English-speaking Catholics by translating the entire corpus of hymns found in the <em>Liturgia Horarum<\/em>. There is a pressing need to make the hymns of the <em>Liturgia Horarum<\/em> available to those who pray the Hours in English. Here are the hymns for Vespers and Lauds from December 17-24 in the Ryde Abbey translation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>At Vespers<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Word, Salvation for us all,<br \/>\nProceeding from the Father&#8217;s mouth,<br \/>\nReceive, O Mary Virgin blest<br \/>\nWithin your chaste and spotless womb.<\/p>\n<p>The Holy Spirit&#8217;s fruitful cloud<br \/>\nHas overshadowed you with love,<br \/>\nthat you may bring forth Christ our Lord<br \/>\nThe Father&#8217;s Ever-Equal Son.<\/p>\n<p>She is the holy Temple&#8217;s gate<br \/>\nForever closed and chastely sealed<br \/>\nWhose sacred portal is reserved<br \/>\nTo open for the King alone.<\/p>\n<p>To prophets promised long ago,<br \/>\nAnd borne before the birth of light,<br \/>\nWhom Gabriel announced with joy,<br \/>\nThe Lord Himself comes down to earth.<\/p>\n<p>Let all the angels gladly sing,<br \/>\nAll peoples of the earth exult;<br \/>\nIn lowly guise the Most High comes<br \/>\nTo save the world which sin had lost.<\/p>\n<p>O Christ our King and tender Lord<br \/>\nAll glory ever be to You,<br \/>\nWho with the Holy Spirit reign<br \/>\nWith God the Father might supreme. Amen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>At Lauds<\/strong><br \/>\nOf old the prophets cried aloud,<br \/>\nForetelling Christ would surely come,<br \/>\nTheirs was the special grace to know<br \/>\nThat man&#8217;s redemption was at hand.<\/p>\n<p>Hence radiates our joy at dawn,<br \/>\nOur happy hearts rejoice and sing,<br \/>\nProclaiming now our earnest faith<br \/>\nIn glory long since promised us.<\/p>\n<p>This humble coming known to few,<br \/>\nWas not to judge a sinful world<br \/>\nBut all our wounds to tend and heal,<br \/>\nBy saving what had gone astray.<\/p>\n<p>His second coming will declare<br \/>\nThat Christ is at our very doors,<br \/>\nTo crown all those who love Him well<br \/>\nAnd welcome them to lasting bliss.<\/p>\n<p>Eternal light is promised us,<br \/>\nThe star of our salvation shines,<br \/>\nAlready its bright gleaming rays<br \/>\nCall us to keep the law of love.<\/p>\n<p>Lord Jesus Christ, we seek but You,<br \/>\nTo see You, God yet truly Man,<br \/>\nSo that this vision blest may be<br \/>\nOur never-ending hymn of praise.
