I found it in Maurice Zundel’s classic, The Splendour of the Liturgy<\/span> (New York: Sheed and Ward, 1939), a book to which I return again and again, and always with a new delight.<\/em><\/p>\n

Holy Spirit, come and shine
\nOn our souls with beams divine,
\nIssuing from thy radiance bright.<\/p>\n

Come, O Father of the poor,
\nEver bounteous of thy store,
\nCome, our hearts’ unfailing light.<\/p>\n

Come, consoler, kindest, best,
\nCome, our bosom’s dearest guest,
\nSweet refreshment, sweet repose.<\/p>\n

Rest in labour, coolness sweet,
\nTempering the burning heat,
\nTruest comfort of our woes.<\/p>\n

O divinest light, impart
\nUnto every faithful heart,
\nPlenteous streams from love’s bright flood.<\/p>\n

But for thy Blest Deity,
\nNothing pure in man could be:
\nNothing harmless, nothing good.<\/p>\n

Wash away each sinful stain,
\nGently shed thy gracious rain
\nOn the dry and fruitless soil.<\/p>\n

Heal each wound and bend each will,
\nWarm our hearts benumbed and chill,
\nAll our wayward steps control.<\/p>\n
