\nO God who called your priest, Saint Sharbel
\nto the singular combat of the desert
\nand imbued him with every manner of piety,
\ngrant us, we beseech you,
\nthat by striving to be imitators of the Passion of the Lord
\nwe may be found worthy of becoming sharers in his kingdom.
\nThrough our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
\nwho lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
\nGod, forever and ever.
\nGeneral Intercessions<\/strong>
\nThat the Church in East and West
\nand, in particular the Maronite Church of Lebanon,
\nmay be graced in our own day with men and women of the desert,
\nlovers of silence and of ceaseless prayer,
\nto the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us<\/em>. R. Christ, graciously hear us.
\nThat world leaders may forsake violence
\nand, by the intercession of Saint Sharbel, a son of the Middle East,
\nchoose instead the way of forgiveness that leads to peace,
\nto the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us<\/em>. R. Christ, graciously hear us.
\nThat the sick, the dying,
\nand the victims of violence in the Middle East
\nmay experience today the healing love of Christ
\nand the comfort of the Holy Spirit,

\nThat young people everywhere
\nmay hear the voice that summoned the young Sharbel into the desert,
\nand so allow the seed of priestly, monastic, and religious vocations
\nto bring forth grain for the harvest,

\nThat we who celebrate these Holy Mysteries
\nmay do so with something of the faith and burning love of Saint Sharbel,
\nand so find therein an unfailing source of healing and of peace,

\nO Merciful Father,
\nthrough the Holy Spirit, You chose Saint Sharbel as a voice crying in the wilderness.
\nIn the Scriptures he discovered Your Holiness as Word Made Flesh,
\nand darkness gave way to light.
\nIn the Eucharist he encountered Your Divinity as Bread of Life,
\nand the poverty of this world gave way to the treasures of Your Kingdom.
\nIn prayer he experienced Your Silence as Mystery Present,
\nand loneliness gave way to communion.
\nThrough the Virgin Mother he embraced Your Son as Lover of Mankind,
\nand hostility gave way to hospitality.
\nWe beseech You, through his intercession,
\nto change our hearts of stone to hearts of flesh,
\nthat with him we may give praise to You,
