I expect to be away from the Eternal City  for the remaining summer months.  I will know better what my fall schedule will be sometime in August.  I have been asked to accept a number of engagements in September, October, and November.  <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oscar_Wilde\">Oscar Wilde<\/a> expresses some of the sentiments that rise in my heart as I spend the day sorting through my things and packing.<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Rome Unvisited<\/strong><br \/>\nI.<br \/>\nThe corn has turned from grey to red,<br \/>\nSince first my spirit wandered forth<br \/>\nFrom the drear cities of the north,<br \/>\nAnd to Italia&#8217;s mountains fled.<br \/>\nAnd here I set my face towards home,<br \/>\nFor all my pilgrimage is done,<br \/>\nAlthough, methinks, yon blood-red sun<br \/>\nMarshals the way to Holy Rome.<br \/>\nO Blessed Lady, who dost hold<br \/>\nUpon the seven hills thy reign!<br \/>\nO Mother without blot or stain,<br \/>\nCrowned with bright crowns of triple gold!<br \/>\nO Roma, Roma, at thy feet<br \/>\nI lay this barren gift of song!<br \/>\nFor, ah! the way is steep and long<br \/>\nThat leads unto thy sacred street.<br \/>\nII.<br \/>\nAnd yet what joy it were for me<br \/>\nTo turn my feet unto the south,<br \/>\nAnd journeying towards the Tiber mouth<br \/>\nTo kneel again at Fiesole!<br \/>\nAnd wandering through the tangled pines<br \/>\nThat break the gold of Arno&#8217;s stream,<br \/>\nTo see the purple mist and gleam<br \/>\nOf morning on the Apennines<br \/>\nBy many a vineyard-hidden home,<br \/>\nOrchard and olive-garden grey,<br \/>\nTill from the drear Campagna&#8217;s way<br \/>\nThe seven hills bear up the dome!<br \/>\nIII.<br \/>\nA pilgrim from the northern seas&#8211;<br \/>\nWhat joy for me to seek alone<br \/>\nThe wondrous temple and the throne<br \/>\nOf him who holds the awful keys!<br \/>\nWhen, bright with purple and with gold<br \/>\nCome priest and holy cardinal,<br \/>\nAnd borne above the heads of all<br \/>\nThe gentle Shepherd of the Fold.<br \/>\nO joy to see before I die<br \/>\nThe only God-anointed king,<br \/>\nAnd hear the silver trumpets ring<br \/>\nA triumph as he passes by!<br \/>\nOr at the brazen-pillared shrine<br \/>\nHolds high the mystic sacrifice,<br \/>\nAnd shows his God to human eyes<br \/>\nBeneath the veil of bread and wine.<br \/>\nIV.<br \/>\nFor lo, what changes time can bring!<br \/>\nThe cycles of revolving years<br \/>\nMay free my heart from all its fears,<br \/>\nAnd teach my lips a song to sing.<br \/>\nBefore yon field of trembling gold<br \/>\nIs garnered into dusty sheaves,<br \/>\nOr ere the autumn&#8217;s scarlet leaves<br \/>\nFlutter as birds adown the wold,<br \/>\nI may have run the glorious race,<br \/>\nAnd caught the torch while yet aflame,<br \/>\nAnd called upon the holy name<br \/>\nOf Him who now doth hide His face.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tomorrow I will be leaving Rome.
