There was the usual assortment of <em>pie donne<\/em> and folks on the way home from work, many of them with a motorcycle helmet on the bench next to them. It being the feast of Saint Romuald, I used the <em>Supplemento Monastico al Messale Romano<\/em> which gives the following Collect and Preface for Saint Romuald.  Although of recent composition and somewhat lacking in the dignity of more ancient Latin texts, they are not without a certain unction. The translation from the Italian is my own.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/vultuschristi.org\/romuald_bielany.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"romuald_bielany.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/vultuschristi.org\/romuald_bielany-thumb.jpg\" width=\"239\" height=\"375\"style=\"float:right; margin-left: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px;\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Collect<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>O Father of lights, from Whom descendeth every gift,<br \/>\nand Who didst grant unto Saint Romuald<br \/>\nperfect compunction of heart<br \/>\nand a deep spiritual intelligence of the Scriptures;<br \/>\nrenew us, we beseeech Thee, by Thy Spirit,<br \/>\nso that, by the steady and diligent hearing of Thy word,<br \/>\nwe may be conformed to Christ Thy Son.<br \/>\nWho with Thee liveth and reigneth<br \/>\nin the unity of the same Holy Spirit,<br \/>\nGod forever and ever.<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Preface<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>It is truly meet and just,<br \/>\nright and availing unto salvation,<br \/>\nthat we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto Thee,<br \/>\nO Lord, Father Almighty, and eternal God.<br \/>\nIn Thy lovingkindness<br \/>\nThou didst fill Saint Romuald,<br \/>\nthe Father and Teacher of monks and hermits,<br \/>\nwith the overflowing joy of lofty contemplation;<br \/>\nThou didst enrich him with the light of the Prophets<br \/>\nand enflame him with the zeal of the Apostles;<br \/>\nThus, by the silence of his tongue and the eloquence of his life<br \/>\ndid he lead back many into the way of salvation.<br \/>\nFor this gift of Thy bounty,<br \/>\nwe join ourselves in exultation with the angels and the saints,<br \/>\nand so sing the hymn of Thy glory:<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I celebrated the 6:30 Mass in the Basilica&#8217;s Cappella di San Gregorio this evening.
