Alleluia!
\nThe Spirit of the Lord has filled the whole world (Wis 1:7);
\nevery created thing trembles for joy,
\nevery waiting heart recognizes the sound of his voice.
\nThe accent of the Father whispers to children playing in the wind.
\n\u201cIt is the Spirit himself bearing witness with our spirit
\nthat we are children of God\u201d (Rom 8:16).
\nThe breath of God carries far and wide the confession of the Rock:
\n\u201cThis Jesus God raised up,
\nand of that we are all witnesses,\u201d (Ac 2:29) singing, \u201cAlleluia!\u201d<\/p>\n

Today the Holy Spirit is poured over the face of the earth
\nturning confusion to communion,
\ngathering in what was scattered,
\nmaking clear what was obscure
\nand teaching all to sing, \u201cAlleluia!\u201d<\/p>\n

Hear the Pentecostal concert and rejoice;
\nvoices of Parthians and Medes and Elamites,
\nvoices hailing from Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia,
\nfrom Pontus and Asia, from Phrygia and Pamphilia,
\nfrom Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene,
\nvoices of Romans, both Jews and proselytes, of Cretans and Arabians
\nall singing, \u201cAlleluia!\u201d<\/p>\n

Those lacking in understanding
\nfind themselves standing under tongues of fire.
\nThose once dark are illumined from within;
\nthe flame over every head dances its way into every heart
\nand faces once abashed shine as they have never shone before.
\nUnveiled now, they \u201cbehold the glory of the Lord\u201d (2 Cor 3:18)
\nand in every mouth there is the taste of new wine
\nand the sound of a new song: \u201cAlleluia!\u201d<\/p>\n

Today the Pentecost is fulfilled,
\nthe mystic number counted out,
\nTo the seven times seven of fulfillment filled full
\nis added the one of superabundance.
\nThis is the fiftieth day akin to the eighth,
\nthe day of \u201cthe cup that overflows\u201d (Ps 22:5).<\/p>\n

The spatium laetissimum<\/em> in closing is opened;
\nthe space of the Church\u2019s endless joy,
\nthe vastness of her jubilation:
\nan immensity of bliss stretching from earth to heaven
\nand causing all to sing, \u201cAlleluia!\u201d<\/p>\n

The dancers having danced their forty-nine steps,
\ntake today the final leap
\n\u201cLeap!\u201d says the Choreographer of Heaven.
\n\u201cThe Kingdom of Heaven lies open before you.
\nLeap, while you have the light, lest the darkness overtake you.
\nWhile you have the light, leap into the light
\nthat you may become children of light
\nand all together sing, ‘Alleluia!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Today the Lord comes down in Fire,
\nthe Spirit who is \u201cLord and Giver of Life.\u201d
\nThe Upper Room becomes a furnace
\n— fornax ardens caritatis<\/em> —
\nand the Mother and the disciples walk in the midst of the fire (cf. Dan 3:25),
\nset ablaze yet not consumed (cf. Ex 3:2).<\/p>\n

The Lord descends to Sinai\u2019s height;
\nthere Moses stands alone no longer (cf. Ex 19:20)
\nfor the top of the mountain has become the Church
\nand the Church cannot but sing, \u201cAlleluia!\u201d<\/p>\n

Today Life descends into the valley of death.
\n\u201cI will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live,
\nand I will place you in your own land;
\nthen you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken,
\nand I have done it,\u201d says the Lord (Ez 37:14).
\nHear the rattle and clink of bone against bone (cf. Ez 37:7),
\nthe sound of the dead brought back to life,
\nthe sound of everything scattered being reassembled,
\nthe sound of the Spirit at work in every dry and sterile place,
\ncausing all to sing, \u201cAlleluia!\u201d<\/p>\n

Today the wine flows freely,
\nmore copious now than when it flowed new into Cana\u2019s wedding cups!
\nThe best wine has been kept for last.
\n\u201cThese men are not drunk, as you suppose,
\nsince it is only the Third Hour of the day\u201d (Ac 2:15).
\n\u201cAll have been made to drink of one Spirit\u201d (1 Cor 12:13).
\nThis is the hour of sober drunkenness foretold by the prophet Joel.
\nLaeti bibamus sobriam ebrietatem Spiritus!<\/em>
\nProphesy, sons and daughters!
\nYoung men, see your visions, old men dream your dreams,
\nmenservants and maidservants, open to the sweetness
\nthat like a river rushes into the vale of tears,
\nand learn to sing the holy table song of all the saints: \u201cAlleluia!\u201d<\/p>\n

Today the Spirit gives utterance to those at a loss for words.
\nToday the Spirit gives breath to the breathless,
\nhealth to the sick,
\nwholeness to the broken,
\npeace to every troubled heart
\nand a song that rises irrepressible: \u201cAlleluia1\u201d<\/p>\n

Today there is coolness in the heat,
\nsolace in the midst of grieving,
\ndew poured out on every dryness,
\nwater washing guilt away,
\nand a voice \u201clike the sound of many waters\u201d (Rev 1:15),
\nintoning in the presence of his Father, \u201cAlleluia!\u201d<\/p>\n

Today the stubborn, bending sin\u2019s old stiffness, give into grace.
\nToday the restless, turning, churning, find repose in the heart of the Lamb.
\nToday the frozen are thawed by the Spirit\u2019s gentle flame
\nand those in the grip of a long chill meet the warmth of the Father\u2019s embrace
\nand in the Spirit begin to sing, \u201cAlleluia!\u201d<\/p>\n

Today locked doors mean nothing.
\nKeys are useless, bolts hold nothing closed.
\n\u201cLet him enter the King of Glory\u201d (Ps 23:7)!
\nToday fear runs frightened, exorcised by the Wounded One,
\nthe Prince of Peace.
\n\u201cLet God arise, and let his enemies be scattered:
\nand let them that hate him flee from before his face\u201d (Ps 67:2).
\nBehold, he stands in the midst of his own.
\nHe breathes on us and says, \u201cReceive the Holy Spirit\u201d (Jn 20:22).
\n\u201cOpen wide your mouth and I will fill it\u201d (Ps 80:1).
\n\u201cReceive at last the kiss of my mouth (Ct 1:2),
\n‘my love, my dove, my perfect one\u2019 (Ct 5:2),
\nmy Church, my Body and my Bride;
\nand sing your song unceasingly: ‘Alleluia!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
