The Collect alludes to Matthew 25:1\u201313, the parable of the bridegroom coming at midnight.  The Gospel presents both John the Baptist, the &#8220;friend of the Bridegroom&#8221; and Christ, the Bridegroom Himself (cf. Jn 3:29).  Both meet with resistance and rejection.  In the end, Wisdom  will be justified by her children, the saints of every age.  Albrecht D&uuml;rer&#8217;s drawing of Christ at the age of twelve (1506) suggests the mystery of the Divine Wisdom come in the flesh.<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>ENTRANCE ANTIPHON<\/strong><br \/>\nMR<br \/>\nBehold, the Lord will come, descending with splendour,<br \/>\nto visit his people in peace<br \/>\nand establish over them life everlasting.<br \/>\n<strong>COLLECT<\/strong><br \/>\nGrant, we beseech you, Almighty God<br \/>\nthat your people may await<br \/>\nthe advent of your only-begotten Son<br \/>\nwith the utmost vigilance,<br \/>\nso that, as he himself, the Author of our salvation taught us,<br \/>\nkeeping watch, we may go forth to meet him<br \/>\nwith our lamps burning.<br \/>\nThrough our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,<br \/>\nwho lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,<br \/>\nGod, forever and ever.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>GENERAL INTERCESSIONS<\/strong><br \/>\nThat the Church, enlightened by the radiance of Christ<br \/>\neven in her darkest nights,<br \/>\nmay rejoice to teach what is for the good of all<br \/>\nand lead all men and women on the way they should go,<br \/>\nlet us pray in silence, for the Lord is near.  Pause for silent prayer.<br \/>\nThat world leaders of good will<br \/>\nmay hearken to the commandments of God<br \/>\nand, instructed by Wisdom,<br \/>\npersevere in the struggle for justice and for peace,<br \/>\nlet us pray in silence \u2014 for the Lord is near.  (Pause for silence.)<br \/>\nThat those who suffer darkness of the mind and heart<br \/>\nmay be opened to the light of life;<br \/>\nand that those who mourn the death of a loved one<br \/>\nmay be comforted by the advent of the Prince of Peace,<br \/>\nlet us pray in silence, for the Lord is near.  Pause for silent prayer.<br \/>\nThat we who have assembled<br \/>\nto hear the Word of God and to partake of Holy Wisdom&rsquo;s banquet,<br \/>\nmay recognize in the Friend of tax collectors and sinners<br \/>\nthe Prince of Peace and the Joy of all the saints,<br \/>\nlet us pray in silence \u2014 for the Lord is near.
