Devotion to the Holy Family began with the modern conception of the family that seems to have begun to develop in the High Middle Ages (prior to that, a familia<\/em> was a household that comprised all that lived within it). Pope Leo XIII permitted the feast of the Holy Family on the third Sunday after Epiphany, and in 1921 Pope Benedict XV extended this feast to the Universal Church, placing it on the Sunday within the Octave of the Epiphany. The Benedictines, however, did not adopt it and continued to celebrate the First Sunday after Epiphany on this day. Nevertheless, two years ago, on January 8th 2022, the Monastery of Our Lady of the Cenacle celebrated the Mass of the Holy Family, even if only for one year. It was for a very special reason.<\/p>\n

The Priory already Consecrated to Jesus and Mary<\/h2>\n

Our monastery of Our Lady of the Cenacle here at Silverstream had already been consecrated twice. On 5 August, 2012, the Priory was consecrated to Jesus, King of Love<\/a>. We are also consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, a consecration renewed as our first act of the New Year each year.<\/p>\n

To the Whole Holy Family<\/h2>\n

In 2023, it was our desire to complete this consecration by making a consecration to St Joseph. In this way, the monastery has been consecrated to all three members of the Holy Family.<\/p>\n

on the feast of the Holy Family 2023<\/b><\/span><\/span>
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

O<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span> glorious Saint JOSEPH,<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>
\n thou art our advocate and our defender,<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span>
\nour father and our friend,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nwho on the word of the angel speaking to thee in the night,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\ndidst put fear aside to take MARY, thy Virgin Bride, into thy home,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nand, even in poverty and in exile,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\ndidst provide security for JESUS, the blessed Fruit of her womb.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nThou art the good provider<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nupon whose resources and generosity we rely. <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nO Support in difficulties,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nPatron of the Afflicted, of the Exile, and of the Poor,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>

\nthou art not indifferent to His designs upon Silverstream Priory,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nand upon those sons of Saint Benedict who, by His grace alone,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nmust struggle to make it a school of the Lord\u2019s service,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\na sanctuary of adoration for all,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nand a haven of peace for priests.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nHumble and powerful Saint JOSEPH,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nwho didst appear at Knock,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\ntogether with the Mother of God,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nwith Saint John the Beloved Disciple,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nand with the Lamb of Sacrifice,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nthy mission in Ireland is far from ended.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, on this day, we solemnly consecrate to thee Silverstream Priory,
\nand all the members of our community both now and in time to come.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nWe choose thee, once again, after MARY, Our Heavenly Abbess,
\nto be our chief advocate and protector.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nProvide for us, protect us, maintain us for years to come,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nin security and in peace,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nin the beauty of holiness,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nand in perpetual adoration<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nof the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nWe promise and resolve, from this day forward,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nto look to thee as to our own father,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nto love thee, honour thee, and obey thee with filial devotion,<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
\nand to leave to thy paternal solicitude<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span>
