\nI spoke of your testimonies before kings,
\nand I was not ashamed:
\nI meditated also on your commandments,
\nwhich I loved (Ps 118:46-47).<\/p>\n

COLLECT
\nO God, who gladden us
\nwith the yearly festival of blessed Cecilia,
\ngrant, we beseech you,
\nthat the things devoutly passed on concerning your handmaid,
\nmay give us an example to imitate,
\nand that the wonders of Christ your Son in his servants
\nmay be recounted.
\nWho lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
\nGod, forever and ever.<\/p>\n

GENERAL INTERCESSIONS
\nThat the Church in every place
\nmay sing psalms of thanksgiving at all times,
\n\u2014like Saint Cecilia, the virgin and martyr\u2014
\nto Christ, her Bridegroom and her Head,

That our civil authorities
\nand all in the service of our country
\nmay acknowledge the mercies of God
\nand seek the wisdom that comes from above,

That like Saint Cecilia, those who are persecuted for the sake of Christ
\nmay always carry the Gospel of Christ in their hearts
\nand persevere in constant prayer;
\nand that all who suffer may find hope in the prayer of the Church,

That, helped by the prayers of Saint Cecilia,
\nthose who are dedicated to singing and making music to the Lord,

That Benedictine nuns the world over
\nmay find in Saint Cecilia the image of their own vocation:
\nto prefer nothing to the love of Christ,
\nsinging his praises
\nand meditating his Word day and night,

That we, having been led by Christ into the desert
\nmay so listen to him who speaks to our hearts,
\nas to be found awake and watchful when he comes,

\nCecilia sang to you in her heart
\neven in the hour of her suffering,

\nready to greet the Bridegroom with lighted lamps
\nwhen he comes in the midst of the night,
\nand go into the wedding feast with him

\nAfter her shall virgins be brought to the King:
\nher companions shall be brought to you
\nwith gladness and rejoicing:
\nthey shall be brought into the temple

\nLord, receive the worship that, in our lowliness,
\nwe set forth before you
\non this memorial of the virgin martyr, Cecilia;
\nby this spotless offering,
\ngrant that we may be set ablaze
\nwith a love that is both tender and holy in your sight.

PREFACE
\nTruly it is right and just, our duty and our salvation,
\nalways and everywhere to give you thanks,
\nLord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
\nas we celebrate the day
\nwhen Saint Cecilia received the martyr\u2019s blessed crown.
\nShe consecrated herself as a bride to Christ
\nin fidelity of heart and the shedding of her blood
\nand as a virgin achieved the martyr\u2019s death.
\nChrist, the pure offspring of a holy Virgin,
\ndrew her with such surpassing love
\nthat, remaining chaste in body and spirit,
\nshe bore without fear both torment and death
\nfor the sake of his name.
\nRejoicing for her, now glorified in heaven,
\nwith angels and saints we acknowledge you as Lord
\nand sing the ageless hymn of your praise:<\/p>\n

\nThe five wise virgins took oil in their vessels with the lamps:
\nand at midnight the cry went up:
