Whereas on all other days the priest says, <em>we<\/em>, <em>us<\/em>, and <em>our<\/em>, on this one day of the year he says, <em>I<\/em>, <em>me<\/em>, and <em>my<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>While some would sniff at the orations for the anniversary of ordination as being late medieval compositions, the Church has seen fit to retain them in the latest edition of the Roman Missal, the <em>editio typica tertia<\/em> of 2002. I, for one, find them humbling and comforting. I used them today. Here they are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Collect<br \/>\n<\/strong>Holy Father, who through no merits of my own,<br \/>\nchose me for communion in the eternal priesthood of your Christ,<br \/>\nand for the service of your Church,<br \/>\ngrant that, living as an energetic and gentle preacher of the Gospel,<br \/>\nI may be found a faithful dispenser of your mysteries.<br \/>\nThrough our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,<br \/>\nwho lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,<br \/>\nGod, forever and ever.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prayer Over the Offerings<br \/>\n<\/strong>Lord, we offer you this sacrifice of praise<br \/>\nfor the increase of our service,<br \/>\nthat you will complete with your mercy<br \/>\nthat which you have bestowed without my deserving.<br \/>\nThrough Christ our Lord.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Postcommunion<br \/>\n<\/strong>Lord, reliving the annual festival of the beginning of my priesthood,<br \/>\nI have joyfully celebrated the mystery of faith for the glory of your name,<br \/>\nthat I may become in truth<br \/>\nthat which, in a mystical way,<br \/>\nI have touched and handled in this sacrifice.<br \/>\nThrough Christ our Lord.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Exceptionally, on the occasion of the anniversary of his ordination, the Church allows a priest to pray at Holy Mass a set of orations in the first person singular.
