\nthat the dignity of priesthood should be to him forever (Sir 45:30).

\nwho were magnified in the life of Saint Martin as in his death,

\nLord God, we beseech you
\nhallow these gifts we offer in honour of your holy bishop Martin,
\nand let our lives, through them,
\nbe guided always in adversity and in prosperity.

\nPREFACE
\nIt is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
\nalways, here and everywhere, to give you thanks,
\nLord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
\nas we praise you for the example of Saint Martin,
\na glorious servant of Christ your Son.
\nHe prepared eagerly to receive the grace of baptism
\nby showing an exemplary love for the poor.
\nHe rejected the rewards of military service
\nin order to serve Christ, the only true Lord,
\nin the humble pursuit of monastic life.
\nChosen by you as bishop of your flock,
\nzealous for the true faith and love of the Church,
\nMartin became a model of spiritual strength for all.
\nAnd so, with all the citizens of heaven
\nwe join with him to acclaim your glory
\nin this, their ceaseless hymn of praise:
