Litany of Knock

knock1b

While the historical anniversary of the apparition at Knock is August 21st, the liturgical feast of Our Lady of Knock is now celebrated in Ireland on August 17th.  Even after one–hundred–thirty–eight years the immensity of what happened at Knock on the rainy evening of August 21, 1879 is not yet understood.  Knock was a true theophany, a manifestation of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the image of the immolated Lamb, surrounded by Angels, in the company His Virgin Mother, of Saint Joseph, and of Saint John the Evangelist.  The message of Knock is silence, and in that silence, a profound adoration.

Litany of the Lamb of God and of Our Lady of Knock

Glory be to Thee, O Lamb of God, who hast shown us Thy immolation and Thy triumph in the mysterious and joy–giving theophany of Knock.

Glory be to Thee, O Lamb of God, who didst appear in the company of Thy most holy Mother, of Saint Joseph, her noble and chaste spouse, and of Saint John, thy beloved disciple.

Glory be to Thee, O Lamb of God, who abidest for us in the most holy Sacrament of the Altar to be our food and our drink, our companion in this earthy exile, and the foretaste of everlasting bliss in heaven.

In adoration, O Lamb of God, I offer Thee the humility of Saint Joseph, the chaste protector and spouse of Thy most holy Virgin Mother;

I offer Thee the silence of Saint Joseph;
I offer Thee the purity of Saint Joseph;
I offer Thee the obedience of Saint Joseph;
I offer Thee the confidence of Saint Joseph;
I offer Thee the fortitude of Saint Joseph;
I offer Thee the prudence of Saint Joseph;
I offer Thee the wisdom of Saint Joseph;
I offer Thee his tenderness, his righteousness, and all the devotion of his prayer;
I offer Thee the power of his supplication for us in heaven, and every manifestation of his fatherly care for the Church on earth.

In adoration, O Lamb of God, I offer Thee the Immaculate Heart of Thy most holy Virgin Mother;

I offer Thee the sweet name of Mary;
I offer Thee her humility;
I offer Thee her obedience;
I offer Thee her loving submission to Thy Father’s perfect plan;
I offer Thee her charity;
I offer Thee her tenderness;
I offer Thee her reverence;
I offer Thee every word uttered by Thy most holy Virgin Mother;
I offer Thee her silence;
I offer Thee her hiddenness;
I offer Thee her sorrows and her tears;
I offer Thee all that she was to Thee on earth and all that she is to Thee eternally in heaven;
I offer Thee her merciful solicitude for sinners, and her unfailing supplication for all who go, mourning and weeping, in this vale of tears;
I offer Thee the loveliness of her countenance and the sweetness of her voice;
I offer Thee the three hours she spent standing in compassion at the foot of Thy Cross;
I offer Thee her most pure maternal Heart pierced by a sword of sorrow in fulfilment of Simeon’s prophecy;
I offer Thee her faith in the silence and darkness of Holy Saturday;
I offer Thee her all–surpassing joy at Thy Resurrection;
I offer Thee her unwavering hope in Thy glorious Ascension;
I offer Thee her persevering prayer in the Cenacle;
I offer Thee the fire that blazed up in her Heart on Pentecost;
I offer Thee her apparition at Knock and every intervention by which she has made known her Heart to the poor, the little, and the forsaken of this earth.

In adoration, O Lamb of God, I offer Thee the virginal purity of Saint John, Thy beloved disciple;
I offer Thee the quick faith by which he responded to Thy call in Galilee;
I offer Thee his ardent zeal;
I offer Thee his consoling friendship;
I offer Thee his contemplation of Thy Face transfigured on Mount Thabor;
I offer Thee his rest upon Thy Eucharistic Heart in the Cenacle;
I offer Thee his presence in Gethsemani;
I offer Thee his faithfulness to Thee in the dark hours of Thy most bitter Passion;
I offer Thee his tender compassion and tears at the foot of the Cross;
I offer Thee his readiness to take Mary, Thy Mother, into his home and to care for her with a son’s attentive love;
I offer Thee the immensity of his joy at Thy holy Resurrection;
I offer Thee his gaze so full of wonder at Thy Ascension;
I offer Thee his heart set all afire at Pentecost;
I offer Thee his priesthood and all the reverence he showed Thy adorable Body and Blood in the Holy Mysteries;
I offer Thee his tireless preaching of the commandment of love;
I offer Thee his mystic contemplation on the island of Patmos;
I offer Thee his virginal fatherhood of souls;
I offer Thee the oblation of his death and his glory with Thee in heaven;
I offer Thee his abiding intercession for Thy Church on earth.

O Lamb of God, I adore Thee in Thy bloody immolation.
O Lamb of God, I adore Thee in Thy glorious triumph.
O Lamb of God, I adore Thee in Thy royal exaltation over heaven and earth, over every place and all times, over angels and men.
O Lamb of God, I adore Thee offered in sacrifice from the rising of the sun to its setting.
O Lamb of God, I adore Thee wheresoever Thou art truly present in the tabernacles of Thy churches on earth.
O Lamb of God, I adore Thee in the astonishing humility of Thy sacramental presence here.
O Lamb of God, I adore Thee who art hidden beneath the sacramental veils of bread and wine.
O Lamb of God, I adore Thee who dost offer Thyself for us in the Sacrament of Thy Love that we might know Thy divine friendship and offer ourselves in turn to Thee as victims of merciful love.
O Lamb of God, I adore Thee in the astonishing obedience by which, at the words of Thy priest, bread doth become Thy sacred Body and wine mixed with water Thy saving Blood.
O Lamb of God, I adore Thee in the mystery of Thy silence in our midst.
O Lamb of God, I adore Thee and exalt Thy life–giving Cross displayed at Knock and in all Thy churches.
O Lamb of God, I adore Thee together with the choirs of angels who surround Thy throne in heaven and Thy altars upon earth.
O Lamb of God, I adore Thee with the angelic choirs, saying “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Sabaoth! Heaven and earth are full of Thy glory.”

Glory be to Thee, O Lamb of God, here in Ireland, and in every place on earth, until the consummation of the world, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
