The IEC: A Disappointment
Reviews of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress held in Dublin last week are rolling in. The overwhelming impression is one of disappointment with the IEC and, in particular, with the liturgy, which was shot through with irregularities, flaws, and a sense of being stuck back in the 70s. In no way did the IEC correspond to the liturgical and theological vision of Pope Benedict XVI.
Many of those who participated went away feeling betrayed, cheated, and humiliated by the portrayal of a Church in Ireland that appears not yet to have moved into the Third Millennium, much less caught up with the pontificate of Pope Benedict XVI. Father Dickson and Mr McDowell over at Catholic Collar and Tie express well what thousands felt. Read their excellent post here.
