28 October, Mass of Saints Simon and Jude, Apostles

I returned last night from the Heaven on Earth Conference held at the Liturgical Institute at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois. It was a wonderful experience. I rejoiced in the presence of priests zealous for the beauty of the House of the Lord and in the participation of brilliant young Catholic architects, many of them from the University of Notre Dame.

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
MR
These are holy men
chosen by the Lord for their unfeigned charity;
to them he gave everlasting glory.

COLLECT
O God, who,
through your holy Apostles,
granted that we should come to the knowledge of your Name;
at the intercession of Saints Simon and Jude,
graciously give constant growth to your Church
by the increase of peoples who believe.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, forever and ever.

GENERAL INTERCESSIONS
That the Church, founded upon the faith of the Apostles,
may be renewed in missionary zeal
and, ever more faithfully,
carry the Face of Christ to those who long for healing and hope,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

That the leaders of nations
may be preserved from greed and the abuse of power,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

That, through the intercession of Saint Jude,
those who find themselves in apparently hopeless situations
may find comfort in the prayer of faith;
and that the homeless and the unemployed
may be given relief with dignity;
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

That we, by loving Christ and keeping his word,
may rejoice in the fulfillment of his promise to Saint Jude:
the joy of the indwelling presence of the Father and the Son,
to the Lord we pray: Christ, hear us. R. CHRIST, GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.

COLLECT AT THE GENERAL INTERCESSIONS
Almighty and ever-living God
who gladden our hearts
on this festival of the holy Apostles Simon and Jude,
mercifully grant that,
as they were faithful and zealous in their mission,
so we may with ardent devotion
make known the mystery of your Christ
who is Lord forever and ever.

OFFERTORY ANTIPHON
GR
Their sound went out into all the earth,
and their words to the ends of the world (Ps 18:5).

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS
As we honor, O Lord,
the everlasting glory of your holy apostles Simon and Jude,
we beseech you to receive our prayers
and lead us to celebrate worthily these sacred mysteries.
Through Christ our Lord.

PREFACE
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always, here and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.
You, the eternal Shepherd,
will never forsake your flock;
but through your holy apostles
you keep it under your continual protection;
so that your people may always be led by those
whom you have called to stand in the place of your Son
as shepherds at the head of your Church.
Therefore with angels and saints
we sing the unceasing hymn of your glory:

COMMUNION ANTIPHON
MR
If any one love me, he will keep my word, says the Lord,
and my Father will love him,
and we will come to him,
and will make our abode with him (Jn 14:23).

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Having received your sacraments, O Lord,
we humbly entreat you
that our celebration of the venerable passion
of your holy Apostles Simon and Jude
may preserve us in your loving favour.
Through Christ our Lord.
